Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods
Common buckwheat as well as closely related species have been found to contain many components that have been shown to have beneficial effects on human health. Higher concentrations of several of these components have been developed in self-pollinating buckwheat lines which have agronomically improved characteristics. These lines will then be utilized for extraction or concentration of the desired component. Improved lines with components which have health benefits but which are better suited for utilization as functional foods are undergoing development for that market.
