Maturity
Variable maturities have been developed in self-pollinating buckwheat lines.
All present cross-pollinating North American buckwheat varieties are mid-season. Therefore, any change in cropping practices can only be accomplished by varying seeding time. Early and late maturing self-pollinating lines are being developed to allow growers a choice of seeding as well as harvest time. As frost tolerance allows for earlier seeding, there is also a need to develop later maturing lines with higher yielding ability.
