Cross-pollinating buckwheat

Cross pollinating buckwheat lines are continuing to receive emphasis in the crop improvement program. They are being utilized in the backcrossing program for the development of superior self-pollinating lines. The superior traits that have been developed in the cross pollinating lines have allowed for the rapid development of self-pollinating lines with these traits. These traits include unique flower clusters types, variable seed coat color, high seed density, large seed size and starch functionality.
