Perennial growth habit

Perennial buckwheat

a. Fagopyrum cymosum X F. esculentum
b. F. cymosum X F. tataricum
c. F. cymosum X F. homotropicum

Fagopyrum cymosum is a perennial buckwheat that belongs to the Cymosum Group. Inter-specific hybrids have been made between it and the other species of the group. If perennial self-pollinating buckwheat can be developed, it would allow for two or three cuttings each year of the top portion of the plant without increased seed cost. This is an important consideration as some nutraceutical components are present in higher amounts in the young leaves and flowers of buckwheat.
