Abstract: Two buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) cultivars, Mancan and CM 169, were grown in the field for 3 yr. Various plant characteristics were recorded to establish visual indicators of optimum windrowing date. Optimum yield was obtained by windrowing when flowering was almost finished and 75% of the seeds had turned brown.

Key words: buckwheat, Fagopyrum esculentum, windrowing, harvest timing
