Abstract: We have cloned and sequenced nine AFLP fragments closely linked to the Sh allele in buckwheat. In the nine, two AFLP fragments, N2 and N7, were derived from a single region in the buckwheat genome, especially N2 which was present in only F. homotropicum but was absent in common buckwheat, F. esculentum. These two AFLP fragments will facilitate marker assisted selection of the Sh allele and will be useful as genetic markers for fine mapping of the S locus in buckwheat.

Key words: buckwheat, F. esculentum, F. homotropicum, AFLP markers
