Abstract: Hybridization among three species of Fagopyrum esculentum Moench, F. homotropicum Ohnishi and F. tataricum Gaerth has been caried out and hybrids produced from 13 interspecific croses using ovule rescue. Self-compatibility together with homomorphism has been introduced from H1, an accession of F. homotropicum, into BM94364.1, an accession of F. esculentum. Inheritance of flower color in the F1 hybrids was found to be intermediate, whereas pin style flowers, winged seeds and shattering seeds were found to be dominant over homomorphism, non-winged seeds and non-shattering seeds. Seed shattering was found to be affected by three types of peduncles. There were no obvious differences among the three species in efficiency of pollination, however, the rate of plan recovery from ovule rescue after hybridization that involved F. tataricum was lower than hybridization that was only related to F. homotropicum. Four accessions of F. homotropicum have two plidy levels, diploid and tetaploid, which appear in fifferences not only morpology but also in the behavior of the cross.

Key words: buckwheat, F. esculentum, F. homotropicum, ovule rescue, homomorphism
